There was a great response to the Vendéen breed stand at the Ploughing Championships in Co. Laois this week. There were two rams on the stand which were excellent examples of the breed, John & Stephen Lynch’s multi- winning ram, Ballinascraw Imperial and Conor & Cheryl O’Brien’s shearling winning ram Quitrent Leonard. Farmers and visitors to the stand were giving their opinions of the stock and experiences of the breed with some still looking for rams for this year.
Society members from all parts of the country used the occasion to meet up and share their stories and ideas over the past year. They all took an active part in staffing the stand and answering questions from the enquiring public.
The National Sheep Breeders Association erect the spacious poly tunnel and then member breeds societies create their displays within it. It is a “one stop shop” for the sheep breed societies to show their sheep. Now it is time to pack up the display for another year and plan for next year.
